SUMMARY:1st Power of Science Series: Priest River Temperature Study

Understanding where that cold water exists can help inform our understanding of how native fish are utilizing a waterbody and can help direct where we invest in projects that protect or improve the amount of cold water available. The Kalispel Tribe and USGS have been studying the temperatures in the Priest River and are excited to share the findings of this study. \nCome on Down! \nThis is the first presentation in our “Power of Science” series. Learn about theexciting science that is occurring in Northeast Washington and Northern Idaho. RSVP on Facebook KNRD_Power of Science_Temp_Flyer

SUMMARY:"We the People 2.0" coming to Newport
DESCRIPTION:Responsible Growth * NE Washington brings the film “We the People 2.0” to Newport with a complimentary screening at the Pend Oreille Playhouse at 236 South Union Avenue\, on Sunday\, November 18\, 2018 at 2:00 pm. \nThis documentary\, presented by Tree Media and the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF)\, tells the story of people across the U.S. who have faced decades of environmental assaults – such as fracking and (sewage) sludging on farmland – and what they are doing about it. \nThe film shares how they are working with CELDF and organizing to stop these assaults in their own communities through rights-based laws\, and what they are doing about it.  \nCommunities are joining across states to advance democratic and environmental rights\, building the next citizens’ movement through Community Rights and Rights of Nature. \nEvents and circumstances that always seemed to be somewhere else are threatening to come to Newport in the form of PacWest Silicon Smelter.  This film will be an opportunity to learn about planning our own community’s future. \nA special guest from CELDF for Q & A follows the film. \nThe views of the guest and program are not necessarily the views of the Pend Oreille Playhouse or management.WTP-CELDF-Poster-17×22 \n

SUMMARY:Forest & Watershed Restoration Project public meeting
DESCRIPTION:Attend the Public Meeting on November 7th from 6pm – 8pm at the Camas Center for Community Wellness! \nHealthy forests and watersheds that provide fish and wildlife habitat\, clean water\, and protect our social and cultural values are important to all who live and work in Pend Oreille County. When forests become overstocked\, dense\, and stressed\, this sets the stage for insects\, disease\, and uncharacteristic wildfire to occur and threaten the very reason many of us live here. \nThe Kalispel Tribe of Indians\, the Colville National Forest\, and the Washington Department of Natural Resources (WA DNR) invite you to participate in planning a forest and watershed restoration project that spans multiple land ownerships and boundaries. We believe an all lands approach\, with involvement from all parties\, is a bold and necessary step to improve the current condition of our lands. \nWE NEED YOUR HELP!\nAttend this public meeting to share your thoughts and knowledge of the area and learn more about the project.
