Professor Patrick McCormick, instructor of Religious Studies at Gonzaga University expresses deep concerns over the moral and religious harms of the proposed Newport silicon metal smelter. Pointing out numerous objections to the proposed smelter Professor McCormick states the smelter “violates the notion of environmental justice and engages in a form of environmental racism.”
